2012 classes in Madison - learn to draw and sculpt comic book characters

Would you like to learn more about creating art for comic books and graphic novels? How about character art creation and development? Oh sure, there are all sorts of books on these subjects… but nothing beats the hands-on and personal instruction you get in a classroom or lab setting.

Well, if you live in the Madison area, you’re in luck! During the upcoming summer and fall, I’ll be teaching several new courses for the Continuing Education Program at Madison College.

First up will be three classes during the summer session:

Learn intro to comic book drawing - take a class

  • Introduction to Comic Book Art will help students learn and become comfortable with the basic tools and techniques used in traditional comic art and cartooning.

Learn about character drawing and comic book design - take a class

  • Character Drawing and Design will guide students through the process of developing their own compelling character designs, using techniques of professional concept artists, including both traditional and digital methods.

Learn how to sculpt characters - take a class

  • Character Maquette Sculpting will be a fun class in which students will design and sculpt their own character statue in roughly 1/6 scale (12 inches tall) using polymer clay.

These classes are open to anyone, from 14 years old (with parental permission, of course!) through adults. Whether you’re a young, aspiring cartoonist, or a more seasoned artist who is interested in trying something new, these courses could be for you!

Looking ahead to the fall 2012 session:

Learn how to sculpt creatures of your imagination - take a class

  • Creature Creation Maquette Sculpting
    Cast your imagination into the third dimension! Whether it's a mythological, winged dragon, a wretched werewolf, a giant cyclops, or a whimsical woodland gnome, students will design and sculpt their own, imaginative fantasy creatures in polymer clay!

Learn ComicBook and Graphic Novel Art  - take a class

  • Comic Book and Graphic Novel Art will be a more in-depth excursion into the process and workflow of creating pages of comic book continuity… from thumbnails to pencils, from lettering through the final, inked artwork.

Learn how to make digital to comic books - take a class

  • Digital Comic Book Art is for students who want to learn more about creating comic book art on a computer, using Adobe Photoshop.

These offerings are non-credit, personal and professional enrichment courses.
